Nora Stephens doesn't think there's anything missing in her life. "Book Lovers" is Henry's third summer romance book, and it's both an epic love story and an ode to books themselves. But a reunion means they'll both have to confront feelings for each other they don't want to have, putting their friendship on the line once again. When Alex says yes, Poppy knows it's her last chance to make their relationship right. Fixing things with Alex feels like the key to it all, so she breaks their stand-off to see if he'll go on a last vacation with her. Two years later, they still haven't spoken, and Poppy feels lost even as everything in her life falls into place. Alex is a homebody who has a codependent relationship with his cat, while Poppy is a free spirit who writes a travel blog.ĭespite all odds, Alex and Poppy have clicked since college, managing to keep their friendship alive after Poppy moved to New York City through an annual week-long vacation.īut after a decade of trips, they make a mistake they can't take back, leaving their friendship in pieces. No one expected Alex and Poppy to be friends, let alone best friends. "People We Meet on Vacation" by Emily Henry.Įmily Henry's second novel, "People We Meet On Vacation," is just as delightful as its predecessor, swapping the enemies-to-lovers trope for friends-to-lovers. Roger McNamee (born May 2, 1956) is an American businessman, investor, venture capitalist and musician. Businessman, venture capitalist, musician I think this book would be best suited for 5th/6th graders and up. The picturebook is a marvel of fantasy storytelling and illustration. Accompanied by his nephew Wiglaf, they engage and kill the dragon, (SPOILERS!) but Beowulf also dies, succumbing to his wounds. Finally, after becoming a king himself, Beowulf hunts down a dragon that has stolen riches from Beowulf’s burial mound. Upon slaying Grendel, Beowulf then seeks out and destroys Grendel's fearsome mother. It follows the adventures of Beowulf as he first helps King Heorot to defeat Grendel, a monster that has been terrorizing Heorot’s kingdom. It is surprisingly faithful to the source material, although retold in modern English so it can be understood by younger readers. I love the original text and wanted to see how the adaptation fared. While I was at the library looking for sci-fi and fantasy titles, I saw this picturebook adaptation of Beowulf on the shelf. It was also stated in his bio that he’s an Editorial Director at Scholastic and a founding editor of PUSH imprint. One of his first published novels in 2003, was entitled Boy Meets Boy. Featuring Every day and my cup of capuccinoĮvery day a different body. For Morrison and most other writers of the 1980s, though, everything about the novel, from plot to style to characterisation, that had once seemed fairly neutral was seen to be fraught with political implications. This acceptance of the novel's power to shape opinion actually frees her to do anything she wants artistically - novelists who are careful to avoid social questions tend to limit their subjects to personal relationships or aesthetic questions that seem, on the surface, to be perennial, though in fact the novelist is usually simply avoiding the social and economic implications of what he or she is saying. I t is clear from Morrison's dedication ("Sixty Million and more") that she intends to embrace the social document potential of the novel, as, indeed, any novel that treats injustice and its effects must do. Red White and Royal Blue also touched on mental illness and grief in such a beautiful way. Plus there’s the LGBTQ+ aspect of this book, which was not only adorable but just done so well in this political climate. The plot centers around the romance, but also deals heavily with politics. I absolutely loved that aspect of this book, because it grounded it even more and added such a fascinating and unique layer to the story. It was all purposeful and made the impact of the story that much better. There was never a point where I felt like something was unnecessary or just filler. I flew through it, only stopping so I can prolong my enjoyment of it. Plotįirst off, this book may be 420 pages, but it doesn’t feel like it at all. I love him, with all that, because of all that. This book made me love it with all of my heart. I especially loved Texas, a place I’ve been to only a few times in my life and never really had an appreciation for. Casey McQuiston’s writing is truly unique, the prose is the perfect mix of beautiful yet relatable and easy to devour. As for settings, there are quite a few mentioned, but all of them feel so real and tangible. While it’s mostly told in third-person, there are also emails, texts, and the occasional speech peppered throughout the book to break up the longer chapters. It’s sharp, quick-witted, and hilarious, while still being heartfelt and honest. There were quite a few times where I caught myself laughing out loud. “The whole world watched, and history remembered.” Writing & Setting “The first thing you think of is the moment that inspired the song, which is that excruciating, awful moment when you run into an ex for the first time. Swift told MTV”s Sway that watching the video was tough. Though you couldn”t tell it from her acting in “Valentine”s Day,” Swift is a natural on camera and she seems to grow only more at ease. Swift is decked out in a cute, prep-school uniform, not of the ravish-me-daddy Britney sort, but an appropriate, not gross version.Īs she recounts the story of her relationship, which is supposedly about John Mayer, we see it lived out through various chapters: from the meet cute to the betrayal to the post-break-up, awkward run in. As a joke he ends up being gifted to the the duke and heir to the throne, Damien. In the clip, which recalls Tears for Fears” “Head Over Heels,” takes place in a school library (because, as Swift sings to her ex, she doesn”t even know “what page you”re on.”). Tears Of The Neko is the story of Kayden, he was capture by hunters and made into a neko salve. Why not CMT, you might ask? In part, because she”s completely crossed over from country artist to pop star and, furthermore, the song, from “Speak Now,” is about as country as the Empire State Building. A Night in the Cemetery: And Other Stories of Crim.We were listening in the car and my daughter (aged 9) finally said to me, "When are they going to get on the boat? Jerome) frequently digresses and waxes philosophically about the beauty of the countryside, history, women's fashion, you name it. The narrator, J (i.e., the author, Jerome K. There's not much plot to speak of - the book is really a collection of vignettes and essays. That pretty much sums this book up in a nutshell. Imagine if Wooster went on a boat trip with two equally clueless friends, but left Jeeves behind. I've often compared it to Jeeves and Wooster. This book was written more than 100 years ago, and it still cracks me up, even after multiple readings.īasically, this is a satire about three pompous, silly young men who take a fortnight's boat trip down the Thames, circa 1889. Seriously, this is one of the funniest books I have ever read. If you haven't, you need to get thee to the library or bookstore, and read it, fast. Anyone who says Victorian literature is boring has obviously never rea d Three Men in a Boat (To say nothing of the dog).
